Midpoint

The midpoint of an interval lies exactly halfway between the two endpoints.

To find the midpoint we:

  • consider the x-coordinates and y-coordinates separately

  • Find the average by adding and dividing by 2

x-value of midpoint = (-3 + 6) ÷ 2

= 1.5

y-value of midpoint = (2+8) ÷ 2

= 5

(Or mentally work out what is half-way between the two endpoints.)
